Chimney Flue Relining

BUT MY CHIMNEY LOOKS FINE:

Many chimneys appear to be in fine condition on the outside.  But, inside it could be a completely different situation.  Yesterdays chimneys were not designed for venting today’s more energy-efficient appliances.

A look inside a chimney that appears fine on the outside often reveals a totally different picture.  There may be cracks, and even pieces missing from the original clay liner.  Older chimneys may not even have a clay liner.  Mortar and bricks may be loose and falling, and there may be other deterioration

It doesn’t take much to start a house fire.  One spark flitting through a crack, or an ember igniting a chimney fire which climbs the chimney ”looking” for an escape route is often enough to start a house fire.  Excessive heat conducted through the chimney walls where the liner is missing is another common culprit in house fires.

Fortunately, all these problems can usually be corrected without completely rebuilding the chimney.

Chimney Caps

Available in stainless steel, copper, and brass, these units keep out more than rain and snow.  They also block access to animals who'd like to crawl in, build a nest, and raise a family.  Or sadly, to die.  We'll remove them when you call for a cleaning -- and install equipment to keep all unwanted debris out of your chimney.

Weather you are looking for a stainless steel chimney cap or a top sealing damper, Nickos Chimney Company will evaluate your chimney and advise  what will work best for you.

THREE REASONS EVERY CHIMNEY NEEDS A CAP.

  1. Rain protection – water causes the greatest damage to your chimney of any of the elements.  It soaks into the porous bricks, eats away at the mortar, hastens the destruction of the of the chimney liner, and destroys the chimney crown.  A chimney cap does a great job of protecting your chimney from water damage.
  2. Animal protection – one of the great sources of danger to homeowners is the threat of disease from animals like raccoons, squirrels, birds and rodents that make their home in your chimneys.  A well-made chimney cap will keep those animals out of your home forever.  Sturdy mesh and a strong lid keep even the most determined critters at bay.
  3. Spark protection – the mesh screen on our caps protects your home from sparks emitted from your chimney.  That means less danger for a fire caused by stray sparks from your fireplace or woodstove.

TOP SEALING DAMPERS

If it’s not the cold drafts on your feet, it’s the high energy bills in your mailbox.

You’ve got a fireplace problem you probably don’t know about.  It’s your damper.  It leaks.  Not a lot mind you, but enough to be costing you over $300.00 a year in lost energy.

The Lock-Top Damper seals tight with a silicone rubber gasket.  That’s right, a rubber gasket, not metal to metal.  Metal-to-metal throat dampers were designed back when energy was cheaper, so a few leaks were no big deal.  You can’t say that today.  A Lock Top Damper seals tight, so virtually no air, and thus no heat or air conditioning gets lost up your chimney.

The lock top also eliminated downdrafts, seals out rain which can deteriorate the inside of your chimney, and prevents entry by pests like squirrels, raccoons and nesting birds.
